Robert Kenneth “Bob” Winkle, 95, of Springfield, passed away February 3, 2019 in his home. He was born May 17, 1923 in Harmony Township, son of George Washington and Lessie Faye (Stringfellow) Winkle. A WWII veteran, he also served our country during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 30 years and raised a family. Although he was not perfect, he helped put an end to evil. Following his military career, Bob worked as a millwright at multiple places and retired from the Champion Company. He was a member of I.A.M., an avid euchre player, and he enjoyed Reds baseball. Survivors include five children, Kenneth Winkle of Amarillo, TX, Gary Winkle of Des Plaines, IL, Connie (Danny) Fugett of Dayton, OH, Glen (Suzanne) Winkle of Beavercreek, OH, and Robert Winkle, Jr. of Springfield; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Wilma Lee of Las Vegas, NV, James Leroy, and Viola May, both of Xenia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Winkle; special friend, Rosie Campbell; siblings, George Washington Jr., Harold William, Edwin Eugene, Stanley Francis, and Donald Winkle; and his parents. The world lost another member of the greatest generation. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services and military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
